Foundation for Good

We are a charity based in the centre of Consett, and our CEO, Fraser Neill, established the Foundation for Good with the aim of helping the local community. Fraser’s vision was to create a space where people of all backgrounds could access support, resources, and opportunities to improve their lives. Since its founding, we have been dedicated to empowering vulnerable individuals, offering a range of services to help improve mental and physical wellbeing, build skills, and foster community

Our Services:

1. Food Bank:

We run a Food Bank at the Foundation for Good, operating every Saturday from 10 am to 12 pm and every Wednesday from 12 pm to 2 pm. It is located at 11-19 Trafalgar Street, Consett, DH8 5AP, directly opposite the bus station. We’re proud to provide this service to those in need within the local community.

2. Wellbeing Services:

We offer a variety of wellbeing services designed to support mental health, including our adults’ wellbeing programme. This programme provides guidance on better mental health, CV writing, interview tips, and more. Our dedicated wellbeing coordinator, Sherilee, works closely with participants to ensure they receive the help they need.

3. Boxing Club:

Our Boxing Club is an exciting and engaging activity that is part of our community services. It’s open to all, with regular sessions aimed at promoting physical fitness, discipline, and confidence. Our head coach, David Twiname, leads the boxing programme and plays a key role in the club’s success. The club is part of our wider effort to support both mental and physical wellbeing.

4. Alternative Learning Provision:

We also offer an Alternative Learning Provision for students who benefit from a non-traditional learning environment. This provision includes outdoor activities, as well as programmes focused on mental health and personal development. Our Education Manager, Nicola Edwards, leads the programme, ensuring it meets the individual needs of each student. The goal is to support students who may not thrive in a conventional school setting, providing them with skills and opportunities to succeed.

5. Tag Combat:

We run Tag Combat, a free programme held every Wednesday from 6 pm to 6:45 pm. This programme has been described as life-changing by some parents of the attendees, and it’s designed to support the mental and physical development of participants. Our sessions are open to all, providing a safe and engaging space for personal growth. We are also proud to have two ambassadors, Uriah and Calum, who are champions of the programme.

Exciting Future Developments:

As part of our ongoing efforts to enhance our services, we are thrilled to share some of our future plans. We are working on opening a community café, where people can come together, enjoy affordable food and drink, and build stronger connections within the community. Additionally, we are developing an innovation suite, which will include a wood workshop and a music studio. These spaces are designed to foster creativity, learning, and innovation, offering individuals new skills and experiences.

Renovation Update:

We are currently undergoing refurbishment at our centre as part of a project to create better spaces for our community services. These renovations are aimed at empowering vulnerable individuals, and we are excited about the future possibilities they will bring.

We are grateful for the support and involvement of our community and look forward to continuing our work with those who benefit from these services.
