This time we are going to focus on Conkers Life, with the information provided by Christina herself.
Conkers Life is based in Hamsterley Mill, Consett.
Tell us a little about yourself and what the business does? “I am a mum and Primary Teacher who has always been inspired by nature. Conkers Life comprises of an Outdoor kindergarten (one of the first in County Durham), regular Parent and Child Forest School sessions, after school clubs, holistic therapies such as yoga, reiki, crystal healing, regular adult wellbeing sessions amongst much more!”
What is the history behind the business? “After having my little girl in 2014 I found that it was not only myself who was in need for a stronger community and I started running parent and child sessions outdoors and they proved very popular. I had always dreamt of running my own school inspired by nature, so I embarked on the long journey of setting up a Kindergarten and we opened in November 2018, we opened with 5 children and we now have 23 children registered in our Kindergarten. Through our parent and Child sessions we welcome over 30 families each week onto our magical site. We now have what we like to call a wonderful “CONKERMUNITY””
Why did you choose to be based in Consett? “I am lucky to have some land here and I always knew that this is where it would all start”
Have you got any future/on-going events that you would like to share? “We are increasing our number of retreats and craft events and in October we are hosting our first local craft fair”
What is your favourite activity to do in Consett? “Walk and to be in the wonderful countryside we are so lucky to have on our doorstep”
Do you have any special memories of Consett you would like to share? “I have lived in this area all my life and again all my memories are to do with the countryside, cycling along the Derwent Walk, walking with my Mum and picking blackberries”.
